This week the Municipality of Cha Am and surrounding districts celebrated the 67th birthday of his majesty the King by organising a pet wellness initiative. The livestock department invited People and Animals Thailand to collaborate in this venture to celebrate the King’s birthday. Providing free health checks , vaccinations and sterilisation of cats and dogs PAT was able to assist in supplying an ultrasound machine to enable non invasive examinations.

PAT also assisted in spaying over 40 cats and dogs who were found to need specialist care. Most of these were found to have infected uteruses (pyometra) as a result of the widespread use of contraceptive injection. These were all treated successfully at the PAT clinic before being returned to their worried owners. The PAT clinic was set up to sterilise and vaccinate street cats and dogs to help tackle the vast problem the overpopulation of these cause.

This is the first time a government body has collaborated with an NGO in such a venture and signals a bright future in joining forces to tackle the problem. PAT has offered its facilities and staff to assist in future projects and are in discussions with several government departments and districts to help the animals of Thailand. With an initial target of sterilising and vaccinating 100 animals this was actually doubled. PAT is proud to have been able to assist in marking an auspicious occasion in such a positive manner.
